Low Emission Fuel Background

The demand for cleaner low emission fuels has been on the rise in recent times due to the ongoing threat of global warming and the greener mindset of younger generations. In 2010 only 7% of the UK’s generated power was from renewable sources, however in 2020 this skyrocketed to 47%, an obvious sign of change for the better.

The most popular types of renewable energy include solar, wind, hydro, tidal, geothermal and biomass, these are in abundant supply and usage is on the increase. However dirty sources of power such as fossil fuels (gas, oil and coal) and nuclear energy still account for the largest proportion and it will take many years for them to become obsolete.

Many workers in hazardous environments could be wearing protective workwear that is not fit for purpose, according to workwear supply and laundry provider, Elis.

Elis works with thousands of businesses around the UK, advising them on their protective clothing  requirements, supplying the workwear and then regularly laundering and maintaining it. The company has in-house PPE expertise in recommending workwear based on risks and hazards present in industrial working environments and estimates that around 60 per cent of business are using at least some workwear that is not fit for purpose.

Paul Swift of Elis comments:  “We help our customers assess the hazards involved and make recommendations to ensure that customers’ protective workwear meets the relevant requirements. It is during this process that we often find that some of the current garments are not providing the wearers with the protection they need and in some cases may not be compliant with legislation.”

ASAP UK is among the first to follow the new process for Grade I Medical Device registration 

Changes in the law post – Brexit regarding the registration of medical devices mean manufacturers, distributors and importers must follow new rules and guidelines. The Medicines and Medical Devices Act 2021, which dictates how the UK medical technology industry is regulated post – Brexit, came into effect on 1st January 2021; a key change is that the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is now solely responsible for registering medical devices for the UK market.

Hart Door Systems, the Newcastle upon Tyne-based specialised engineering company, has won more export work for projects in the Far East, Africa, and the Channel Islands.
