Dorchester based, Tritex NDT have developed a new range of triple echo ultrasonic thickness gauges for measuring metal thickness to check for corrosion on pipelines, storage tanks and other industrial applications where corrosion occurs. The range includes the Multigauge 5500, designed for hands free use when climbing on staging, scaffolding or when accessing large storage tanks by rope.The Multigauge 5600 has been developed for most common thickness gauging applications on pipelines. A new thermal imaging camera that takes the guesswork out of  temperature measurement, by fusing visual and thermal images on to the same screen, has been launched to meet the needs of electrical contractors, maintenance engineers, HVAC professionals, energy inspectors and auditors, and engineers in construction and the automotive industry.

The IRI 2010 is the first in a new range of British designed and manufactured thermal imaging cameras produced by Northampton-based thermal imaging specialists Irisys, who have spent 18 months developing the technology that will give tradesmen an invaluable tool for temperature, & hot / cold spot detection for around £2,000. 

The new BEKOMAT 33 was presented for the first time at this year’s Hannover trade fair in Germany. With this new condensate drain BEKO further extends the range started with the 31 and 32 drains two years ago. These drains have been very well received by our customers, leading to demand for a larger device- hence the new 33.

All three drains in the range have the same basic innovative concept in common: The BEKO service module. This module contains all wearing parts in a corrosion resistant housing which is fitted in seconds- making service a doddle! On the 33 we find, in addition, a condensate receiver tank to cater for larger condensate output, and a larger valve orifice.

When changing the service unit the condensate tank remains in place attached to the compressed air system, meaning no time consuming de-coupling of solid pipework.

Every service unit is pressure and function tested at the BEKO factory for peace of mind, and requires no electrical installation other than unplugging the electrical housing and plugging it back in again once the drain is serviced- just like plugging in an electrical item at home!

Steelmakers Corus (Port Talbot) had been experiencing problems with their 42” edger drive system. The existing gear units were only providing 41 rpm when a drive speed of 59 rpm was required. Added to this, Corus’ Area Engineer Craig Dummer stated that “they were experiencing heavy vibration and ultimately, damage to the gear units”.

When the gears failed, this left Corus vulnerable to transfer bar loss, due to large section gaps in the rollers preventing delivery of the slabs to the down stream process.Hansen were called in and provided a new split drive gear system running the rollers at 59 rpm. Craig Dummer confirmed that “as the Hansen solution was to split the drive,utilising a matched pair of gearboxes, it is now far more economical than the originalconcept with a larger, single gearbox”.

By installing an eWON industrial-grade Ethernet router – that offers secure, Internet-based remote control and diagnostics – with its lighting control systems, Architen Lighting is now able to remotely monitor and control customer lighting systems from anywhere in the world using a secure Broadband or wireless connection.

In a recent project, this technology was used by Architen to monitor and diagnose a lighting system it had installed at the new O2 Arena in Dublin, Ireland. For this project, Architen sourced a single eWON Ethernet Gateway from M.A.C Solutions (UK) Ltd, which enables Architen to remotely monitor and control the lighting system. Architen engineers simply log on to a web page on the Internet using the eWON’s Talk2M (Talk To Machines) service, enabling them to turn on or change lighting effects from their own desktop, anywhere in the world.
