New BoSS scissor lift takes low level access to next level

A new push-around scissor lift from BoSS aims to take factory maintenance to a new level of safety and productivity.

The BoSS PA-lift, available from Access Platform Sales (APS), has industry-leading working height of 5.4m with smart technology previously only offered with larger access platforms.

It is also outdoor rated, with a reduced maximum working height of 4.6m (for wind speeds up to 12.5m/sec), even with optional anti-climb guards fitted.

The scissor lift, manufactured by Wernerco, has been designed as a replacement of the already popular BoSS X3 and BoSS X3X models, and represents a major upgrade in key performance areas.

Chris Banks, Technical Director at APS, the exclusive distributor of BoSS products in the UK and Ireland, said: “The BoSS PA-lift represents a significant step forward in push-around platform design.

“The WernerCo team has managed to increase working height while maintaining the same impressively compact width and actually making the platform only 5kg heavier than the X3X.

“It’s ideally-suited for maintenance teams working in factory and process engineering environments to carry out inspections, repairs and equipment replacement projects.

“The extra working height reduces the risk of operatives over-reaching. It also means the BoSS PA-lift will be available for tasks that would otherwise have to be carried out from a taller self-propelled scissor lift.

“Push-around scissor lifts also have proven productivity advantages over other working at height solutions, such as aluminium towers.”

Key tasks it is designed for including mechanical and electrical maintenance and fit-out, painting, cleaning, process equipment installation, and HVAC and plumbing installation.

The new smartphone-enabled diagnostics system reduces downtime by allowing an off-site engineer to analyse maintenance data and recommend fault fixes without having to attending site.

One access rental company taking the BoSS PA-lift estimates the technology will prevent the need for around 25% of maintenance call-outs, which represents a significant saving for the end-user.

The remote diagnostics function works by downloading a BoSS app to smart phone. This then synchronises with the scissor lift via a dongle number on the manufacturer’s plate.

In another first for push-around scissor lifts, the BoSS PA-lift also has an overhead proximity sensor that increases the frequency of an ascent alarm after the platform gets to within three metres of an overhead obstacle – and stops platform ascent at two metres.

The operator can then fine tune their working height to safely move the platform closer to the obstacle.

As well providing increasing working height, the BoSS PA-lift’s platform provides more working space. It is 630mm wide, 60mm wider than the BoSS X3X and X3 scissor lifts it is replacing.

Its maximum safe working load of 250kg – 10kg more than the  BoSS X3X – means there is plenty of capacity for an operator to work with tools and materials.

Its overall width is still 760mm so it can be moved easily through a standard single doorway and a small passenger lift.

Weighing just 375kg, it is easy to manoeuvre, and suitable for use on most floors where a low point loading is critical.

The scissor lift has an array of other safety features, including tilt and overload sensors. It can also be fitted with a range of accessories, including a confined space guardrail and anti-climb guards.

APS is also the UK and Ireland distributor for LGMG access platforms, Hinowa spider platforms and tracked plant, and Wienold material lifts.
