These Standards will soon be included in the scope of International Certification Schemes such as IECEx (which will remove the ability for manufacturer to self-certify non-electrical equipment and assemblies) and will also become the standards for ATEX Certification (which will still permit a level of self-certification for all but Category 1 equipment unless unit verification is requested).
It is essential that manufacturers of non-electrical equipment and assemblies have the competence to perform a comprehensive ignition hazard assessment on the complete mechanical equipment to identify all potential ignition sources and provide appropriate levels of protection where necessary (to be called protection concept ‘Ex h’).
