Q-Ball E – maximum venting effectiveness and minimum weight

As a pioneer in developing systems for flameless explosion venting REMBE GmbH Safety + Control has fundamentally changed the world of explosion protection already in the eighties. With Q-Ball E the German engineers are now presenting a new development, which possesses the potential to revolutionise flameless explosion venting once again.

This is because the Q-Ball E is going to set a new benchmark in venting effectiveness and weight. Primarily designed for elevators, the principle of contour parallel venting is taking effect on the Q-Ball E. A maximum venting effectiveness is guaranteed whereas the required vent area simultaneously is reduced to a minimum.

Flameless venting is an option that is economical and effective. Different manufacturers use different technologies in flameless venting. Let us have a look at one particular technology at this point: The special mesh filter that is used in a Q-Ball E efficiently cools down the pressure and flame wave (up to 3000 °C) extremely efficiently within only 500 milliseconds, preventing both flames and pressure from emerging and ensures particulate retention. The typical increase in pressure and noise that accompanies an explosion within a building is reduced to an almost imperceptible minimum, thus protecting both humans and machinery. Proximity to an external wall is not required, so this simple protection solution can even be used in the middle of production halls. The optimised production process remains in the building. Equipped with an explosion vent it is an integrated signaling unit that alerts the process control system when the explosion vent has opened.

The design is characterised by another new feature; the extremely low weight of the Q-Ball E. Competitive products with comparable performance will easily have more than twice of the weight.

Therefore, the Q-Ball E is ideally suited for installation on components with a low strength. The dimensions of the three available Q-Ball E sizes are designed to fit perfectly on elevators. A sanitary cover protects the Q-Ball E in a perfect way against wetness and dust indoors and outdoors.

Nowadays, it is a common industrial standard for flameless explosion venting devices that in closed rooms, neither flames nor pressure or dust can exit the respective unit. The dangerous effects of explosions need to be reduced to a minimum and harmless level; the noise of the explosion shall be minimised to an acceptable level. Ideally, production downtimes can be avoided or significantly reduced.
