If FibreGrid can make a castle safe, we can do the same for your premises
Originally built just after the Norman Conquest (when Building Regs weren’t quite so stringent!), Norwich Castle is now a fine museum.
Visitors are free to roam around the castle, including the battlements, which is why Fibregrid was called in. The perimeter roof around the castle, which offers panoramic views of the city, had wooden boards for people to walk on. These allowed rain water to collect and were a potential slip hazard. The customer needed something robust but unobtrusive, so we recommended our 14mm TwinGrid (‘mini mesh’) grating over the wooden boards. The embedded grit on the surface gives the anti-slip properties needed, whilst rain water simply passes through the holes, which at only 13mm won’t snag even the tiniest of feet.
Our grating comes in a choice of colours, but the customer chose grey to blend in with the stone of the castle.
We were tasked with fitting over 150 linear metres at a width of 400mm, including some steps. The job was completed in only three days, which is good going when you consider that the materials had to be taken up a small, winding spiral staircase. You’d have thought the Normans would have installed a lift!
Why are we telling you about a job we performed for a tourist attraction rather than something more industrial (which we could easily have done)? The answer is that we are very proud that Norwich Castle entrusted us with this sensitive task. After all, if something goes wrong in a public place the media have a field day, whereas many industrial accidents go unreported, in the news at least.
So, if Norwich Castle trust us to keep their visitors on their feet, you can trust us with your facility.
