Belzona 4411 (Granogrip) – For the prevention of slips, trips and falls

Whether in a workplace or public environment, the importance of people’s safety should always be a top priority.

There are various areas that can become slippery and dangerous when in contact with water and other liquids such as production floors, ramps, stairs, loading bays and walkways. These areas can present serious injuries and costly repercussions if not treated with proper care and responsibility. In Great Britain alone, there were over 69,208 employee non-fatal injuries reported by employers in 2018/19 (RIDDOR). From that figure, 29% of those incidents were categorized as slips, trips or falls on the same level.

There are of course quick, short-term solutions for dealing with wet or contaminated areas. Flooring areas can be regularly cleaned, effective footwear can be worn, and training and supervision can be given. However, in order to significantly reduce the risks of accidents in the long-term, safety grip systems offer a hard-wearing solution that exhibits exceptional adhesion to a variety of surfaces in comparison to anti-slip tapes.

Belzona 4411 (Granogrip) is a two-part, fluid epoxy resin designed for the creation and repair of safety grip systems on walking surfaces. Used in conjunction with an aggregate, this solvent-free material is ideal where slip reduction, adhesion, chemical or wear resistance are required. When compared to conventional grip systems such as tapes/strips, epoxy systems such as Belzona 4411 offer both performance and application benefits. Aside from the slip reduction, the system demonstrates excellent levels of adhesion, offering a long-term solution that will not peel or wear away. The system also ensures high visibility where required, available in safety yellow or grey. Once installed, the system requires no maintenance, making it a reliable choice. The positive grip system is also easily brush-applied without the need for hot work or specialist tools. The solvent-free and low-odour nature of the system also allows work to be carried out on-site in public areas.

The following example demonstrates the systems ability to not only upgrade an areas appearance and visibility, but to also offer a long-term, non-slip solution. Numerous step nosings at the main entrance of a secondary school had become damaged over time with a loss of surface material. In the original state of the stairs, there was also a lack of visibility. The school wanted the main entrance upgrading and wanted to ensure the steps were safe for its staff, pupils and visitors. Once the concrete step nosings were rebuilt using a Belzona concrete repair composite, Belzona 4411 and aggregate were applied by brush, with the application area taped out to ensure a neat application. The completed application meant there was a drastic reduction in the risk of falls or related injuries due to the increased traction this system offers.

Belzona 4411 (Granogrip) is the ideal solution for creating a safer environment in workplaces and public environments. The system is proven to be long-lasting, providing better performance over conventional methods such as adhesive tapes and strips.
