Emerson has introduced two new Rosemount™ 628 Universal Gas Sensors to measure carbon monoxide and oxygen depletion in addition to the existing capability to monitor hydrogen sulphide. These additions to the series enable a broader range of hazardous situations to be monitored using the Rosemount 928 Wireless Gas Monitor platform.

On site visits around the world we often see wrong gloves in the wrong working environment, cotton/nylon coated gloves in construction sites, for example where moving heavy objects is required. These gloves are not the best barrier for protection.
We have observed that even in quarries and mines workers are using basic nylon coated gloves where it is clear that Cut Gloves should be used as: a/. a more robust glove on abrasion, b/. protection from sharp objects. Often this is results from a company cutting cost at the expense of workers, or simply that workers may not know better, as they are not properly educated by the safety managers, and because gloves are frequently not seen as the most important protective wear compared to say; hard hats and shoes.
When sourcing lighting to install in hazardous areas there are various things to consider. These include cost, performance and reputation of the manufacturer, but how much thought do end users give to ease of maintenance? For many, the answer to this question is probably, ‘not enough’.
By understanding the terms ‘modular’ and ‘sealed for life’ LED Ex luminaires, we can compare how the design and certification of these different approaches impacts the ease of maintenance.
