Corus Process Engineering completes air mist caster study for Mexican steel plant

CNESCorus Process Engineering (CPE), part of Corus Northern Engineering Services (CNES), has completed a detailed study into the conversion of a water-only cooling system on a steel slab caster in Mexico, into an air mist spray cooling system, enabling the plant to produce higher quality grades of steel, while providing a more efficient cooling method.

The work is being carried out on the number 3 slab caster at Altos Hornos

Acoustics monitoring prevents downtime at Shapfell Lime Quarry

Damaged BearingsBy carrying out regular condition monitoring checks on critical rotating plant and machinery, Corus Northern Engineering Services (CNES), the maintenance, condition monitoring and engineering services company within Corus Group, has helped a limestone quarry in Cumbria maintain its output, efficiency and profitability.

THE ULTIMATE FLUID EXTRACTOR

Fluid ExtractorAGRIEMACH has come up with a Fluid extractor that can truly extract or transfer any fluid, including motor oil, gear lubricant, coolant, water and any other liquid, neatly, powerfully and fast.

The Agriemach Fluid Extractor is not only essential in the workshop, but also ideal for boat, truck and farm equipment operators as well. Designed to be used in inaccessible areas or confined spaces, the extractor features a low profile spherical design with a 6 litre capacity and a handy pouring spout with 5 mm hose to fit down dipstick tubes, and has an unbeatable transfer speed of 4 litres of water per minute.

The biggest single cause of transmission failure is oil contamination.

TM Series Filter MagAgrimach have a simple and inexpensive answer to that problem with the introduction of their new TM series FILTERMAG which stops this problem instantaneously. By attaching either the TM180 or the TM360 to the bottom of the transmission pan, the all powerful NEODYMIUM magnets with a magnetic pull force of 25Ibs, will hold the steel particles in suspension allowing only clean oil to circulate around the transmission.

SBES SUPPLIES LONE WORKER SOLUTION TO CCLRC

Lone Worker ProtectionSBES, the lone worker protection specialist, has just completed the installation of its LifeSaver lone worker alarm system at the Synchrotron Radiation Source (SRS) building at Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire near Warrington. The site is operated by the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils (CCLRC) and is a World class facility that supports the research community by providing access to advanced facilities and extensive scientific and technical expertise.

According to Andy Goulden, an engineer at Daresbury Laboratory, this particular application was unusual as there were two distinct types of lone workers on the site that needed protection. Firstly, there were CCLRC staff who might be working alone on a shift pattern across a 24/7 period. Secondly, there were site

SBES PROTECTS EXXONMOBIL AVIATION STAFF

ExxonMobil AviationSBES has recently completed the installation of a diverse lone worker protection system for ExxonMobil Aviation at six airports across the UK. The system, the first of its type anywhere in the World, will protect workers either out on site refuelling aircraft or back at the operational base.

The initiative to install the SBES system has come from Paul Heald, SHE and OIMS adviser for ExxonMobil Aviation in the UK. He recognised that during a 24h period at Manchester Airport personnel were often working alone and that a solution to this

Hedland Offers Products to Monitor Case Drain Lines

PCTUnexpected pump failure can be costly and time consuming. By installing an affordable Hedland direct-reading flow meter on the pump case drain, the user can monitor changes in efficiency by keeping tabs on any increase in case drain flow. The excess case drain flow shows the pump is beginning to fail. This allows you to schedule preventive maintenance and reduce unexpected down time.

Hedland's Variable Area meter has a low pressure drop, typically 1-5 PSIG with an accuracy of 2% of full scale. The meter can be installed in any position with no special piping or flow straighteners. Hedland also offers the EZ-VIEW Variable Area meter, a low cost Polysulfone version with a 5% full scale accuracy.

For a more sophisticated case drain monitoring system, Hedland offers the Flow-Alert Reed Switch and MR Flow Transmitter. The Reed Switch can automatically signal an alarm if case drain flow increases beyond a predetermined limit. It can be connected to a PLC or to other devices to automatically open closed electrical circuits, or activate warning lights and audible alarms. MR Flow Transmitters can be connected to any data acquisition, PLC or PC for advanced analysis. It features an on-board digital display and electronic output signal with analog outputs of 4-20mA, 0-5 VDC or 0-10 VDC for remote transmitter.
